What is the church? The english word ‘church’ is the common translation of the Greek word ‘ekklesia’ which means ‘to call out’ or ‘an assembly or congregation’. But the word has different applications in the New Testament. Misunderstandings and misconceptions abound today concerning the church of Christ — both invisible and visible. In this broadcast of Let the Bible Speak, we look at some critically important features of the church and its nature.

The world is fraught with problems. From state house to the church house and even in our own houses, it seems there are problems everywhere we turn. There is a common cause of all of the challenges we face and there is also a common solution to them all. The coming of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost was prophesied 800 years before by the prophet Joel. When the apostles of Christ were baptized with the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem it created wonderment but also confusion among some. The apostles miraculously spoke in the various languages of those gathered there and some, not understanding, said the men were drunk. Peter stands and says they were not intoxicated as some supposed but instead, THIS IS THAT which was spoken by Joel. Today, most things in religion are attributed to the work and influence of the Holy Spirit including claims of modern revelation and supernatural gifts. But is this — THAT?  In this broadcast of Let the Bible Speak, we examine modern claims in light of the prophecy of holy scripture.

The apostolic wells of truth, through the centuries, have become filled in with human tradition and false doctrine. Like Isaac, who “digged again” the wells his father Abraham had once dug in the Valley of Gerar, after the Philistines had filled them in, we need to dig again the wells of living water. Jesus later compared Himself and the salvation He brought to mankind to a well of living water. The wells, however, were polluted and obstructed by the enemies of truth. The Apostles, particularly Paul, spent a great deal of their time re-digging the wells of salvation that were clogged with the remnants of Judaism and paganism.

In this first broadcast of a two-part series, we learn how Paul dug again the ancient wells of truth and how we must do the same.
